Course Description

This foundational module provides a comprehensive overview of the fundamental characteristics of wastewater. Learners will explore the “used” water supply of a community, analyzing its physical, chemical, and biological constituents. The curriculum covers the lifecycle of wastewater from its various sources through collection systems.

Learning Objectives

1) Define wastewater and identify its primary components

2) Identify the four primary sources of wastewater: human/animal, household, industrial, and
inflow/infiltration.

3) Distinguish between Influent (untreated) and Effluent (treated) wastewater.

4) Classify wastewater characteristics into three broad categories: Biological, Chemical, and
Physical
