Course Description
This module provides a comprehensive introduction to Asset Management Fundamentals for water and wastewater utilities, emphasizing the balance between asset performance, risk management, and lifecycle cost optimization. Learners explore key asset classes, the evolution from reactive maintenance to data-driven asset management practices, and the essential components of the 10-step asset management process. Topics include asset inventories, condition assessment, criticality scoring, lifecycle planning, and the development of an effective Asset Management Plan (AMP). The course also examines how Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) work together to support informed decision making. Participants gain an understanding of the operator’s critical role in collecting accurate field data that drives asset reliability, operational efficiency, and long-term infrastructure sustainability.
