Course Description
Heat Injury & Illness Prevention provides water and wastewater personnel with essential training on recognizing, preventing, and managing heat-related hazards in indoor and outdoor work environments. The course covers OSHA heat safety requirements, heat stress risk factors, temperature triggers, and implementation of Heat Injury and Illness Prevention Plans (HIIPP). Learners gain practical knowledge of acclimatization, hydration, protective equipment considerations, and utility-specific controls to reduce heat-related illnesses and maintain a safe, compliant workplace.
Learning Objectives
1) Define the OSHA Initial (80°F) and High-Heat (90°F) triggers.
2) Identify signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion vs. heat stroke.
3) Execute the 20%–80% acclimatization schedule for new employees.
4) Document daily heat monitoring using Heat Index or WBGT.
5) Apply emergency response protocols for a heat-related “Man Down” scenario.
