Course Description

This module provides operators with practical techniques for developing
and executing effective flushing programs. Topics include achieving scouring velocities,
avoiding low-pressure conditions, applying corrosion indexes, ensuring safety, managing
dechlorination, and collecting field data for system evaluation.

Learning Objectives

1) Calculate flushing velocities that scour without damage

2) Use index/indicator trends to plan flushing segments

3) Open/close valves safely and prevent water hammer

4) Plan dechlorination and environmental protection

5) Collect pressure/flow data and isolate systems effectively

Agenda

1) Hydraulic performance targets and simplified sizing considerations

2) Operational planning to prevent low pressure events and boil water advisories

3) Use of corrosion indexes to prioritize system improvements

4) Dechlorination and discharge control requirements for maintenance activities

5) Valve operation safety, pressure/flow data logging, and isolation procedures
